Shraddha Kapoor (born on March 3, 1992) is an Indian film actress and former model. Kapoor, the daughter of actors Shakti Kapoor and Shivangi Kolhapure, was born and raised in Mumbai. Prior to making her cinematic debut, she took up theatre studies atBoston University. Kapoor made her acting debut in Leena Yadav's box office flop Teen Patti (2010), for which she received a nomination for the Filmfare Best Female Debutaward.
She consequently appeared in Y-Films' 2011 teen comedy Luv Ka The End, in which she received praise for her performance, as well as the Stardust Award for Best Actress.[5] In 2013, she appeared in the romantic musical drama Aashiqui 2, which was declared a commercial success.[6][7] Alongside her acting career, Kapoor participates in stage shows, and is a celebrity endorser for brands and products

Early life and background[edit]
Kapoor was born in Mumbai to a mixed-ethnic of both Punjabi and Marathi parents.[8] Her father, Shakti Kapoor and her mother, Shivangi Kolhapure Kapoor are both actors of the Hindi film industry. She is the niece of actress Padmini Kolhapure and Tejaswini Kolhapure. Her older brother, Siddhanth Kapoor, is a former disc jockey,[9] and actor.[10]
She did her schooling at Jamnabai Narsee School in Juhu, Mumbai,[11] and at the age of 15, she shifted to American School of Bombay. In an interview with The Times of India, she admitted, the focus of her school life was soccer, which she played competitively.[12] Later, she enrolled at Boston University, majoring in theatre studies, as she wanted to act, but she quit her freshman year in order, to cast in her debut film. Following much media speculation, the producer Ambika Hinduja, who had noticed her inFacebook, made the decision to cast her for a role in Teen Patti.[13]

Kapoor made her acting debut in 2010 with the film Teen Patti,[14] where Kapoor appeared as a college rock star alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Ben Kingsley and R. Madhavan. The film failed at the box office[15][16] though Kapoor's performance attracted a generally positive reception from critics; Preeti Arora of Rediff.com stated that "[t]hough a bit raw, [Kapoor] has a lot of potential.″[17] Nikhat Kazmi ofThe Times Of India said that "Shradha Kapoor makes an interesting debut as the edgy youngster who sheds her specs for sleaze, with alacrity."[18] Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama added that Kapoor "get[s] maximum footage and [...] stand[s] out."[19] Kapoor was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.
In 2011, she signed a three-movie deal with Yash Raj Films,[20] and consequently featured in the lead forY-Films's teen comedy Luv Ka The End.[21] Though the film failed at the box office, Kapoor's portrayal of a college student who plots against her boyfriend (Taaha Shah) after he betrays her, generated mostly favourable reviews.[22][23] Taran Adarsh commented that ″Shraddha is a revelation, catching you unaware with a confident performance. She's electrifying in the sequence when she breaks down after getting to know the true intentions of her lover.″[24] Komal Nahta of Koimoi.com noted that ″Shraddha Kapoor does well. She performs very confidently and impresses in her second film.″[25] Ankur Pathak of Rediff.com opined that ″Shraddha Kapoor has a charming screen presence, and though she's not a proficient actor so far, she is above average as the conflicted girl with a stubborn motive.″[26] Gaurav Malani of The Times Of India was more critical of Kapoor, saying that "Shraddha Kapoor's role is decent but she doesn't rise over the average script.″[27] For her performance, Kapoor received the Stardust Award for Best Actress.[28] Before Kapoor's three-film contract with Yash Raj Films was completed, she signed up for Mahesh Bhatt's Aashiqui 2, thereby cancelling the contract.[29]

In 2013, Kapoor appeared in the romantic musical drama Aashiqui 2. Her character in the film, Aarohi Keshav Shirke, is a small-town bar singer who becomes a successful playback artist with the help of singing superstar Rahul Jaykar (Aditya Roy Kapur). The film emerged as a major box office success; with a global revenue in excess of INR1 billion (US$15 million), the picture attained blockbuster status.[30][31] Kapoor earned positive reviews for her portrayal. Anupama Chopra of Hindustan Times called her "the real triumph" and added that her "porcelain face has a haunting vulnerability."[32] The Times Of India's Madhureeta Mukherjee reflected that ″Shraddha looks innocently beautiful. Letting her emotions play out brilliantly in high-strung scenes with supreme confidence. This is a talent to look out for.″[33]Taran Adarsh further commented that ″Shraddha [...] gets to sink her teeth into this challenging character and the attractive youngster is simply amazing, more so towards the demanding moments in the second hour.″[34] In one review however, Vinayak Chakravorty wrote that she "looks pretty [though] fails to add [...] spark."[35] Kapoor is slated to appear in a supporting role for the Punit Malhotra-directed romantic comedy Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, alongside Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan.[36]
Kapoor has recently signed three projects—Ekta Kapoor's The Villain, where she will feature opposite Sidharth Malhotra, Vishal Bhardwaj's Haider with Shahid Kapoor and Radhakrishna Jagarlamundi's Gabbar alongside Akshay Kumar.[37][38][39]
Off-screen work[edit]
In addition to acting in films, Kapoor has supported charitable organisations, and performed for stage shows. In late 2012, she graced the ramp in Manish Malhotra outfit—for Shabana Azmi’s NGO Mijwan Welfare Society—(MWS) which specialised a social cause for the empowerment of the girl child in rural India.[40][41] In the early 2013, on Mother's day, she participated in a campaign ″P&G Thank You Mum″, alongside her mother, Shivangi Kapoor, and with actress, Kangna Ranaut and director, Abhishek Kapoor[42] involving the awareness for a Mother neccesity and valuement in an individuals life. In late 2013, she performed a stage show on Saath Hai Hum Uttarakhand a Fund raising event organized by STAR India contributing towards strengthening on-going efforts at rehabilitation in flood-ravaged Uttarakhand to help bring comfort to the victims.[43] That year, being the spokeperson of Wella, she unveiled the awareness ofammonia hair colours are not completely safe in the campaign for ″P&G professional's brand Wella Professionals″.[44]
